Q. for 5 year olds... what are some verses or stories in the Bible that would be good to use with 5 year olds to teach " choose right over wrong". They have asked us to use Peter denying Christ 3 times, but we think that is a bit harsh for 5 year olds. any good ideas from Bible verses ?

A. Jonah, Elijah and the prophets of Baal (fun one to do with a demonstration- we did this at VBS this year), David and Goliath (fun songs that go with that one...). If you need any info on demonstrations or songs, just ask. I would be more than happy to help :) God Bless!

What's so wrong with saying "I don't know"? Why do people have to make up stories to fill gaps of knowledge?
Q.

A. Just because you don't know some things, does not mean that others have not found an answer that they consider relevant. Perhaps, you may realize that you may not be the only source of information. Other people might have insight you do not have. Perhaps they are not "making up stories" at all, but simply sharing truth you have not yet found.

What is the truest and most unabridged English translation of St. Augustine's "The Confessions"?
Q. I have looked on Amazon.com and there is a plethora of translations, and I was just wanting anyones opinion on the most true and unabridged translation of this book. Thank you for your answer. As a matter of fact I do have acces to a university and I just may ask them. And if you could get the name of that translation for me I would appreciate it. Thank you.

A. Hmmm, I wish I had my book with me for I cannot remember the translator's name. I can find out for you late tomorrow though if you are going to wait. I have read his confessions about three times and there is a huge difference between some of the translations. If you have access to a university you might want to ask a classical studies professor or better yet a Latin professor, I study Latin but not well enough to know which translation is the most accurate. You probably will not want to buy anything done after 1950 though. It seems my original copy of the confessions is missing, but I would recommend a translation by Marcus Dods if you can find one, he translated another of Augustine's works, The City of God, very well. Otherwise, unless… [cont.]

A. Well, that question is an obvious "troll" (see link, below), so, yes, you can click the "Report Abuse" button to report it if you wish. Sadly, there are SO many trolling questions on here that if you reported all of them that would take up ALL of your time on here, so, although I used to report them in the past, I don't even bother any more, there's just too many of 'em. Good luck!...

Do you think it's wrong that we "lie" to children about Santa Claus/The Three Wise Men/St. Nick?
Q. I don't. I think that I've never met a person who was "traumatized" by that small fib. But then again, I'd like to hear your opinion. I too will tell my children about The Three Wise Men, maybe not Santa Claus since I don't really know what he has to do with the Nativity???
Asked by ayahoouser - Sun Dec 20 16:19:24 2009 - Religion & Spirituality - 19 Answers - Comments
A. I never thought of it as a something cruel or mean. I like telling kids about Santa Claus because it makes the Holidays magical to them. It's wonderful to hear children talk about how happy they are about Santa. Edit- People keep focusing on how telling kids about Santa is teaching them that lying is ok, but what about all the good things you learn from Santa Claus. Kids learn to be good for the sake of being good, they learn to be generous, they learn to be unselfish, they learn to help others, they learn to be kind to large brown mammals with antlers, they learn about giving others joy and laughter, and they learn to always try to be a better person. I think all of that makes up for one little lie. .

How come there isn't a "Humor" category?
Q. I see jokes and riddles, but that isn't really all there is to humor. Stuff like favorite comedians, tv comedies, funny personal experiences and stories really don't need to be drowned out in another category where everyone is talking about how sad their life is, or how angry they are. Why doesn't Yahoo answers give us a lighter side to hang out at?
Asked by Talsier - Thu Mar 18 13:21:49 2010 - Jokes & Riddles - 1 Answers - Comments
A. It might be interesting to run a trial of a couple of weeks and then at the end of that period a panel could exclude all those which could not be placed in "Jokes and Riddles". It would be interesting to see what was left.

Is it not insulting and wrong to teach children the bible in schools and tell them it is "all true"?
Q. What I mean is, a teacher wouldn't tell a class a story like Rumplestilskin and attempt to pass it off as fact, so why is it considered acceptable to do so with bible stories, eg. Noah's Ark?

A. It should be taught as it's another religion and most religions should be dicsussed, but it should NOT be taught as fact. There is no proof it's real, sorry but there just isn't solid proof. There are kids of Many other religions in the class (mixed schools) so it's not fair on them.
